FAQ
Everything you're likely to wonder about the steel, the sizes, the shipping, and the guarantee. Can't find your answer? Get in touch — we reply within one business day.
Buying it as a gift
That is the most common question we get, and it is the one we are best at. Send us a photo of the car, or his Instagram, or just the story (“the silver one he had before the kids”) and we will work out the year and the generation and point you at the right piece before you order. It takes a day. Ask us first.
If he can tell you the generation without looking it up, he will know you got the right one. That is the whole gift.
It is the one gift that is about his car specifically, not cars in general. Not another mug, not a sign with a slogan on it: the exact car, drawn as the exact generation, cut out of steel up to five feet wide, on the wall where he will see it every day.
Most of them end up in the living room or the office rather than the garage, because it reads as artwork to everyone who walks past and as something else entirely to him.
Order by these dates and it will be there:
- Friday 13 November — custom pieces
- Friday 20 November — anything from the catalogue
Both dates carry a full week of slack on top of our normal turnaround, because a gift that turns up in January is worse than no gift at all.
Left it later than that? Order anyway and email us — we'll send you a printable card with the car on it, so there is something to open on the day while the real one is still being made.
Sizing
Every design comes in four sizes, from Small (24" wide) up to XL (60" wide). Heights vary by design because each drawing keeps its own shape at every size, rather than being stretched to fill a frame — the exact width and height of every size is listed under "Exact dimensions" on each product page, and the size guide photo shows all four sizes above a standard 84" sofa for scale. One thing to know before you pick: XL ships within the US only — boxed, it is longer than most international carriers will take. Small, Medium and Large ship to every country we serve.
If you would rather judge it by eye than by tape measure, the gallery shows the pieces on real walls at every size, in rooms about the size of yours.
Close enough that anyone who knows the car will name it across a room — but these are drawings, not blueprints. Every piece is our own interpretation of a car's side profile. Some lines get simplified, some details get left out, and a few get pushed a little, because that is what makes a shape read from twenty feet away in steel. The artistic licence is the point, not a defect.
The one proportion we do not take licence with is the one on your wall: artwork is never stretched or squashed to fit a size, so a piece holds the same shape at 24 inches and at 60. Exact width and height for every size is on each product page.
Getting the car itself wrong is another matter — wrong generation, wrong body style, a missing detail that defines it. That one is on us, and we want to hear about it.
If you want your car drawn differently — closer to stock, a specific trim, a detail we skipped — order it as a custom and tell us. Send a photo of yours for reference, or just the year, make, model and trim with a note. Drawing a car one way for the catalog does not mean we cannot draw it another way for you.
We are human, and there are a lot of cars in the catalogue. If a design has the wrong generation or body style, or is missing a detail that defines the car, tell us which one and what is off — a reference photo helps, though a sentence is plenty. We will redraw it and update the listing. If you already own that piece, say so and we will make it right.
Owners catch these things faster than we do. We would far rather hear it than leave it up.
The product
One solid piece of laser-cut steel, finished in matte black powder coat. It's not a print, not vinyl, not plastic — it has the weight and presence of real metal, with crisp cut edges you can see from across the room.
Garage Muse is a New York company, and the drawing is done here. Every car is drawn to its exact generation before anything is cut — that drawing is the piece, and it is ours.
The cutting, powder-coating and packing are done by our manufacturing partner overseas, on industrial laser and coating equipment that only earns its keep at production scale.
That split is what keeps the price sane. Cutting one piece at a time is the expensive way to make anything — there is no batch to spread the setup across, and every order is a fresh run on the machine. Building one-offs on a line meant for volume is what lets us draw a car nobody has ever ordered and still price it like a product rather than a commission.
One partner, one line, every order — not whoever is cheapest that week. It is why a 24-inch piece and a 60-inch piece look like they came from the same place, and nothing is cut until you have ordered it.
It hangs from a single point, and it hangs level. Machined black standoffs hold the silhouette clear of the wall so it throws a real drop shadow — the reason it reads as an object rather than sitting flat against the wall like a print.
The gallery shows how that reads on a wall — the piece floating clear of it, with the shadow underneath.
No. Powder-coated steel is one of the most durable finishes there is — it won't fade, warp, or peel indoors. If it ever gathers dust, a soft dry cloth is all it needs.
Ordering & shipping
Every piece is made to order — cut, powder-coated, and packed for your order, then delivered in about 4 weeks. A custom, which has a drawing step in the middle, takes about 5. You'll get a confirmation as soon as you order and tracking the moment it ships.
We would rather tell you four weeks and take three than tell you one and take four. Nothing here is stamped out in advance or sitting in a warehouse — your piece does not exist until you order it.
Over-packed on purpose. What ruins a piece like this in transit is a box that lets it move, so yours does not: the artwork sits between five layers of 15 mm board with a foam sheet against the face, cable-tied down so nothing shifts, and wrapped in a board collar before it goes anywhere near the carton. Every box is shake-tested before it is sealed.
Yes — to 48 countries. Canada, the UK and Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, most of Western Europe, and the high-income parts of Asia and the Gulf. If we ship to you, your country is in the list at checkout. If it is not there, email us and we will tell you honestly whether we can get a piece to you.
In the US, shipping is free and there is nothing else to pay — no duties, no import fees, nothing owed to the courier at the door. The price on the product page is the price at checkout.
Outside the US, the price on the product page is the price of the piece itself. Shipping, import duties and local tax are all worked out at checkout from where you are and the size you picked, and you see the full total before you pay — we would rather show you a real number than bury it in the sticker price.
You settle the duties once, at checkout, and never again. Your piece then ships delivered duty paid on what you already paid, so nothing turns up later with a customs bill attached — which is the thing that ruins buying art from abroad.
One exception: XL ships within the US only. At 60 inches wide it boxes out longer than most international carriers will carry, and the ones that will charge more than the artwork costs. Small, Medium and Large go everywhere on the list.
Warranty & returns
We replace it free — no arguing, no partial refunds, a brand-new piece. Just email us photos of the damage and packaging within 3 business days of delivery and we'll get a replacement into production.
One thing that helps: if the box looks like it has had a hard trip, photograph it before you open it. It costs you nothing and it makes the claim instant.
Because every piece is cut and coated specifically for your order, we don't offer change-of-mind returns. Anything that arrives damaged or defective is covered by our free-replacement guarantee — see our refund policy for the details.
Custom orders
Almost certainly — the catalog is just the starting grid. Order a custom piece in the size you want, then send us a photo of yours — or just the year, make, model and trim. We research the exact variant, draw it in the same style as everything else here, then cut it.
Same goes if your car is in the catalog but you would rather have it drawn differently — closer to stock, a different trim, a detail we left out. Send a photo of yours for reference, or describe what you want changed in your order notes.
